Muslin Festival
In 2016, Drik-Bengal Muslin, in partnership with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Bangladesh National Museum and Aarong, launched a series of exciting activities and events under the banner of the Muslin Festival. The goal was to narrate the authentic story of this fragile and storied fabric to a national audience, to inspire its revival and to accord recognition to its artisans.
The four week-long Festival was inaugurated on 6th February 2016 at the Nalinikantya Bhattyashali Exhibition Hall of the Bangladesh National Museum. It brought together a large and diverse range of experts, academics, crafts people, media houses and prominent citizens to re-discover a glorious part of Bangladesh’s textile heritage. The festival started with a Muslin Night at Dhaka Nawabs’ mansion Ahsan Manzil, followed by the exhibition inauguration where a signature publication, ‘Muslin, Our Story’ was launched. Later the audience visited the wonderfully curated display of ancient artefacts, varieties of muslins along with the manufacturing techniques used by today’s artesans.
